NoWay Ohtani

It is never easy when a rumored player does not become a member of your favorite team, but it hurts even more when that player is a once in a life time talent and he was mentioned as being in your home town city from someone you trusted as an insider.

My emotions over the past couple of weeks have been a roller coaster and I do not remember the last time I was this upset over something sports related. Looking back I never did expect Ohtani to become a member of the Blue Jays, but as the days moved on, I believed the chances were getting closer and it was only a matter of time before a deal was done.

Becoming a Los Angeles Dodger always made the most sense to me, so I am not surprised that he wound up signing there. The deal and term also does not surprise me either, but what Ohtani did with his contract is somewhat different and new. He showed the world that he is about winning and views that with the Dodgers that chance is at its best. I can not disagree with that either.

As a Blue Jays fan the sting is there and I do not know when it will go away. The Jays have yet to do anything in the free agent market and no one out there excites me. I believe signing Bellinger will be terrible for team because he will demand a crap ton of money and term and signing him will prohibit extending Vladdy or Bo. All this for a guy that has had one good season and three terrible seasons in the past four. Signing Yamamoto would have helped eased the burn, but he signed with the Dodgers as well for stupid money.

To be totally honest, it seems that the Jays management has their hands tied and does not know what to do. What is there to do? A couple of names that were linked to the Jays have signed elsehwere and no one out there now makes sense. Even in the trade market, the rumored names such as Corbin Burnes, Jorge Polanca and etc. are not realistic so what should be done?

The team has glaring holes in the outfield and at third base, so something has to be done there to start. Calling up Orelvis Martinez would be a disaster since he has been up and down in the minors with his bat and his glove is a huge question mark. Espinal is not a starter and as far the outfilend is concerned they do not have anyone internally that can fill a position.

Davis Schneider lit the world on fire for a short time last season, but he is raw and declined as teams figured him out so to rely on him for any sort of playing time is not in the cards. So what is going to be done? Beats the hell out of me, but something for the sake of Jays Nation has to be done and done soon!
